I sometimes thinks that we have people who are leaders that really are not sure what it means to lead. To lead is to sacrifice. That is the way of the Ogichidaa.Ojibwe Confessionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10434882024674242926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1247006163860528093.post-9315553703893244752010-08-13T15:54:53.320-05:002010-08-13T15:54:53.320-05:00You shoulda been at the AFN AGA in Winnipeg this p...You shoulda been at the AFN AGA in Winnipeg this past summer. the Manitoba regional caucus meeting was scheduled for Thursday morning, and only one cheif showed up. Only one f**kin' chief. I guess they don't care about the issues.

You shoulda heard Morris Shannacappo's speech at the youth gathering. He said "I'd like to stay here and talk to you longer, but I have to go play golf with the chiefs." Talk about warped priorities. Golf with the big shot Indian elites is more important that teaching and inspiring the younger generation.

You shoulda seen the resolution on post-secondary education. It said that post secondary education is an inherent right under international law. This is total BS. If I was in AFN, I'd sue the lawyers for malpractice. Post-secondary education is not an inherent right under international law. Primary education is a right under the UN declaration of human rights, but this is considered "soft law" and is not really enforceable. Now our leaders will waste time and resources fighting a fight that has no legal basis and cannot possibly be won. The lawyers will get lots of billable hours though.

You shoulda seen the resolution on accountability for the truth and reconcilliation process. What about accountability in our band processes?

The point I'm trying to make here is that the Indian Brotherhood is an imcompetent organization. The people need to do whatever they can to eliminate the legitimacy of their leadership. Our ancestors had no Indian Chiefs, they had Ogkimak. The Ogkimak were not comparable to kings, as some chiefs say, they did not rule nor did they have power. They only had a duty to ensure that every voice was heard and considered-something that the chiefs never do.

Positive change will only occur when the peoples' voice is heard, even if...especially if that voice is different from the voice of the corrupt, incompetent chiefs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
